ARTC MLS Interstate Network
Agonics delivers 9,000 Km digital twin to Australian Rail Track Corporation
Client
ARTC
Location
Adelaide, Australia
Challenge
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) needed to acquire reference data to implement new safety critical technologies. They sought a partner experienced in data acquisition at scale to survey the 9,000km interstate network and who could deliver datasets to meet tight internal deadlines.
Solution
ARTC and Agonics designed a low-impact recording program to preserve valuable train paths. High resolution MLS datasets were then recorded at scale using an ARTC hyrail vehicle. Asset extraction workflows created an extensive, validated asset inventory as well as matching reports on existing Ellipse data.
LiDAR data was then analysed in the Agonics XERRA platform to deliver extensive encroachment reports. Final deliverables included asset geodatabases, track centrelines, digital elevation models, LAS tiles, and survey accuracy reports.
Outcomes
- Efficient data recording across Australia’s largest railway network meant project deadlines were met.
- Key strategic projects including Electronic Track Access (eTAp) and the Advanced Train Management System (ATMS), benefited from high accuracy datasets.
- In NSW alone, over 6,000 fewer man-hours will be spent in the danger zone performing manual clearance measurements.
