Our Work
ARTC / Vertex Rail Virtual Signage
XERRA® Supports virtual placement of new signage across Nullarbor tracks.
Client
ARTC
Location
Nullarbor, Australia
Challenge
ARTC consultant, Vertex, needed to install 440 new trackside signs across remote Nullarbor tracks. Their placement needed to meet specific site requirements but also ensure minimum sighting distances for approaching trains.
Solution
Having previously recorded MLS data across the Nullarbor for ARTC and generated track centreline and asset features including turnouts, yards and loops, Agonics was able to calculate the precise coordinates where each sign would be installed.
Virtual signs were then rendered in the XERRA® LiDAR analytics platform at their calculated locations. Once in XERRA®, Vertex Rail and ARTC were able to inspect each sign to see if there were any local obstructions or terrain that would impact the installation work or impact minimum sight lines.
Outcomes
- Signpost heights could be pre-ordered using cross section elevation data to ensure that sign text was at the correct height and conformed to driver requirements.
- Accurate installation coordinates meant that work crews had clear information on the planned location of each sign in remote areas with few reference features.
