ARTC ATMS

Challenge

The Advanced Train Management System (ATMS) is a significant investment by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to enhance safety and capacity across the 9,000 km interstate network. The ATMS solution required existing track centreline datasets to be translated into the ATMS vendor’s format.

Solution

The project commenced with the design of a quality assured workflow that considered all data inputs, data translation, quality control checks, and necessary Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) workbenches, as well as data outputs based on the ATMS vendor’s database schema.

Enhanced quality assurance steps, including a critical verification step with a test subset data, ensured accuracy and compliance. Agonics then delivered the full datasets for the Port Augusta to Whyalla and Tarcoola to Cook ATMS sections.

Outcomes

• The project successfully delivered digital data in the vendor’s ATMS format.
• The inaugural ATMS sections were commissioned as planned.
• ARTC was able to reuse digital datasets from previous MLS surveys to support a safety critical investment.
